The estimated cost of hard and software of the faculties of
Engineering and Applied Sciences are given in table is 18. These
estimates are based on the experience of the consultants in
establishing similar laboratories, but are subject to fluctuations
in the cost of hard and software.
Total Project Cost
The total cost of the project is the summation of the costs of
hard and software for the faculties of engineering and applied sciences and the costs of buildings and civil works
. In order to determine
the project cost for each phase, it is assumed that 70 percent of total project
cost will be incurred during Phase 1, 15 percent during Phase 2 and 15 percent
in Phase 3. The breakdown of the total project cost into the three Phases has
been tabulated in Table 19. The project cost for Phase 1 is Rs. 4.312 Billions (US $ 140 Millions), and
Rs. 924 Millions (US $ 30
Millions) each for Phase 2 and 3. Thus the total project costs for all the three
Phases is estimated at Rs. 6,160 Billions. The cost of
project includes the professional fees for planning, design, detailed
engineering, and management services.
In 1992, the Project cost
for Phase 1 was estimated at Rs. 3.0 Billions (US $ 120 Millions).
However, since 1992 the US $/Rupees parity has increased from Rs. 25 to Rs. 62 per US $. This has increased the cost for Phase 1
proportionally in Rupees term. In
addition there has been about ten percent inflation in International costs during
the period 1992-95.
